Why a tow strap? Because it is faster to use than a winch. In the 1:1 world, winching is not desirable and is generally used as a last resort to escape or recover from danger. With a tow strap, if one member in the group can clear the obstacle first, that vehicle can then be used to pull the next vehicles through the obstacle using a tow strap. It promotes humans helping humans and is a quick way to support others on the trail.
