If you met me (Edmundo) at the drift track, chances are highly likely I had a pair of treaded HPI drift tires on the front of any rc drift car I was driving. These are a very soft compound plastic and tire design. These tires offer great grip on polished concrete and J tile. This is accomplished by the drift tire having a molded tire bead on it, similar to a typical rc rubber tire. Since the HPI tire is not one solid piece of plastic slid over the rim, the HPI tire can flex under load. IMO the treaded tire on the front of a rc drift car improves the steering response and ability to stay on line.

BUYER BEWARE: ALL HPI DRIFT Tires require them to be boiled in hot water at 200* for 2-3 minutes to soften the tire enough to slide over the drift rim. Failure to follow this procedure will damage the rim and or the tire. Trust me, I have mounted many dozens of these and the fool proof method is to place the rim in the freezer to get it cold and shrink it, then boil the tire. Do not buy these tires if you are unwilling to use the method described. This is why CI offers pre-mounted sets here in the salvage yard. If you attempt to mount HPI tires with any design of tire press, the rim will either crack, or the tire will deform. I have been successful in using a tire press to remove HPI tires, but those tires still needed boiling to mount them on the next set of rims.
